Nelson N. Wilson

Mr. Wilson, a qualified Professional Geologist, is the owner of GEAR. He served on active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1975-1981, and, latterly, he served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1981 to 1986 while attending the University of Florida where he earned his BS degree in Geology. Professionally, Mr. Wilson has worked with Soil & Material Engineers, PIECO, Metcalf & Eddy, and MACTEC, as well as the owner of his first company, Gator Environmental, from 1994-2001. He earned licenses as Professional Geologist, Building Contractor, and Pollutant Storage System Specialty Contractor in 1994.  In 2007, Mr. Wilson incorporated Gator Engineering & Aquifer Restoration (GEAR), and, with his service-connected disability, qualified GEAR as a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business in 2010. In 2014, Mr. Wilson was honored by the Orlando Business Journal (OBJ) with the inaugural Veterans of Influence award by demonstrating leadership, honor, and active community service.

Norm Hatch

Norman “Norm” Hatch is GEAR’s qualifying professional engineer and Vice President. From 2004 to 2012, Norm was the Director of Engineering and Construction for the Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority supplying potable water to the Florida Keys, the Assistant Program Director to the City of Jacksonville with the remediation of incinerator ash/lead-contaminated sites, and Lead Engineer for several large contaminated waste management and remediation programs nationwide for the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Hatch has broadened his experience at GEAR with Mechanical-Electrical-Plumbing projects involving Water Distribution, Boilers, Cooling Towers, and Chillers; all in the control and prevention of Legionella bacteria in water systems.

John Kaiser

John graduated from the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, and served in the Active Navy for six years, then he served in the Reserves for another 24 years.  Mr. Kaiser has a BS degree in general engineering and physical sciences and he certified through the Nuclear Regulatory Agency (NRC) as a Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) instructor while working for Westinghouse Corporation.  John Kaiser has over 30 years of management, environmental, and engineering-related experience, from which the last 20 years have been within the environmental industry.  He was the program manager for a $75 million Navy contract, Comprehensive Long-Term Environmental Action-Navy (CLEAN), which accomplished work at numerous Navy bases in the Southeast United States.  He has over 12 years of experience conducting due diligence Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA)’s in accordance with ASTM 1527, and the AAI rules that were incorporated into standard processes for the SJRWMD, the SWFWMD, and other clients.   John is experienced in both Florida and national environmental regulations; he has conducted environmental compliance work, environmental baseline assessments, remediation, and record of decisions.  He has performed work and managed CERCLA-based assessments and site investigations as well as National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) projects for numerous clients.

Steven Volpe

Steve attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania from 1995 to 1999 graduating with a BS degree in Geology. He attended the University of Florida from 1999 to 2002 for post-graduate studies in Oceanography and Volcanism. Mr. Volpe is a licensed Professional Geologist since 2015, as well as a licensed AHERA Inspector since 2012. His experience includes assessment and/or remediation of petroleum, heavy metals, chlorinated solvents, and pesticides/herbicides, as well as NEPA assessments and Asbestos Surveys.  He manages all phases of work for GEAR’s portfolio of 30+ sites within the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Petroleum Restoration Program, as well as Phase I and II ESA and NPDES Permitting projects for private clients.

Brian Richards

Brian has over 29 years of technical, financial, and operations management experience with technical expertise encompassing strategic relationships, mergers, acquisitions, and expert witness testimony.  Previously, Mr. Richards was a corporate manager and shareholder of Handex Corporation, Handex Group, Inc. and Handex Consulting and Remediation, LLC., Brian was responsible for increasing sales, due diligence for acquisitions, and expanding the company geographically. During his tenure, Brian worked as a Geologist, Principal Geologist, Vice President of Operations, and CEO.  Mr. Richards served as the Technical Director for over 100 Geologists and 700 projects in the eastern United States and Australia.  He was responsible for all phases of scientific assessment, remediation and risk assessment in the eastern US and Australia.  As Vice President of Operations, he assured the technical development and company administration of 27 environmental consulting offices in 17 states.  Brian joined Gator Engineering an Aquifer Restoration, Inc. (GEAR) in 2016.

Juliet Wilson

Ms. Juliet Wilson graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. Juliet is GEAR's Secretary Officer. She manages the office and accounting functions, coordinates office administration procedures, and ensures operational effectiveness by setting office protocol and streamlining administrative tasks. She manages financial accounts, researches and analyzes accounting data, and conducts financial transactions.  In her role, Juliet supervises clerical staff, assigns duties and tasks, and ensures data entry. She handles a wide range of administrative and executive tasks.


Hector Cornejo

Hector Cornejo is GEAR’s control engineer and information technologist using various platforms to maintain our reliable communications and networks. He graduated from the University of Texas-Pan American with a dual degree in Bachelor of Administration and Computer Information Systems. Hector has over 8 years of industry experience with a wide variety of capabilities and great problem-solving skills. At GEAR he is also an Engineering Technician where he supports project managers with fieldwork, creating tables, report writing, and maintaining environmental equipment.

Michelle Mendez

Ms. Michelle Mendez Cordova earned her Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics Engineering from La Salle Cuernavaca in Morelos, Mexico in December 2013. Ms. Mendez has over 6 years of experience in engineering, and 3.5 years in the Architect-Engineering and Environmental industries. Michelle has continued her education taking electrical engineering classes and has also become an expert in CAD and REVIT design tools, among others. Michelle joined GEAR as an intern engineer and is a key project team member for our federal, state, county, and commercial projects, especially our Space launch-related clients operating at KSC and Cape Canaveral.
