U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District contracted A-E Design-Build projects for Army Reserve Centers in Florida. GEAR was contracted by two teams and provided Geotechnical services for the West Palm Beach and Sanford, Florida sites.

GEAR completed 16 borings over a ten-acre site with one bore to 50 feet to evaluate sinkhole presence. The ARC consisted of two single-story buildings with column and wall loadings of approximately 75 kips and 6,000 pounds per lineal foot, and another building at 100 kips and 7,000 pounds per lineal foot.

The buildings were steel framed structures with reinforced concrete foundations, concrete floor slabs, and masonry veneer walls. The geotechnical study included permeability testing and sinkhole evaluation with conclusions and recommendations for stormwater control.
